How should you really eat? That is not an easy question to answer. Even with extensive nutrition research, many factors affect how your body feels about the food you eat – for example your own genetic predispositions. That may be why today’s dietary guidelines feel so hard to navigate.

How should you really eat? That’s not an easy question to answer. Even though there is a lot of research being done in the field of nutrition, many factors can affect how your body responds to the food you eat – for example your own genetic predispositions. That may be why today’s dietary guidelines are so hard to interpret, and why opinions among different researchers can sometimes go in completely different directions.
• But there are some conclusions that can be drawn from the research available today:
• Eat plenty of fish and shellfish, vegetables, berries, nuts and olive oil.
• Avoid or eat sparingly of sugar and refined carbohydrates such as white bread.
• Choose white meat like chicken instead of red meat, even though red meat in normal amounts is most likely not dangerous for us.
• Moderation is best! Don’t eat more energy than you use.
• Coffee and a small piece of chocolate every day can probably help prevent some diseases.
• If you want to lose weight, you can do so on both a low-carbohydrate and a low-fat diet.
• Be careful with salt and avoid processed foods.
Food and health is one of the most difficult research areas in the world. Maintain a humble attitude toward current knowledge and be aware that recommendations may change in the future. When you choose what food to eat, you should always remember that what you put into your body also builds it up. You should primarily choose organic food.
All people are unique and have different genetic makeups that govern the body’s processes. Therefore, we are also affected differently by the food we eat. Some people are more sensitive to blood sugar fluctuations than others, which means they easily gain weight from so-called fast carbohydrates such as pasta, white bread and rice. Others have better blood sugar control and feel good eating some carbohydrates, and may instead be more sensitive to fatty foods. That’s why there is no single diet that suits everyone – you have to figure out for yourself what works best for you.
Wellr advocates a diet based on natural and nutrient-dense food. At Wellr we offer several different evidence-based dietary approaches, where you can try for yourself what works best for you as an individual.
